About Mark Williams

Mark Williams was born in South Wales in 1961 and is an identical twin. He has recently returned to his home town of Cwmbran which is on the cusp of rural Gwent and the Post Industrial South Welsh Valleys. Both environments have informed his Art Work. Mark graduated from Gwent College of Higher Education with a degree in Fine Art back in 1983. He has primarily worked in the field of Technical Drawing & Surveying within an Industrial context. Work as a Technical Illustrator rekindled a neglected interest in painting prompting Mark to become what he described as being “a full time Fine Art Painter working around full time technical and industrial jobs”. In time he has a sell out Art Show - a one man exhibition of oil paintings - entitled “It’s not unusual” at Janet Martin’s GPF Gallery in Newport - an exhibition of urban and industrial scenes.
Since then Mark has exhibited and sold work at:
- The BBC Wales Building at Llandaf.
- The Washington Gallery in Penarth.
- The Bute Space Gallery in Cardiff.
- The Grant Bradley Gallery in Bristol.
- The Newport Wetlands RSPB Centre Nature Reserve.
He won a prize at the Welsh Libraries Art Competition in 2010 and has undertaken commissioned work.
“THE HILL OF DREAMS” - 2025

Mark recently exhibited 171 paintings at Janet Martin’s “Barnabas Art House” in Newport running from 3rd June to 2nd August 2025
“The Hill of Dreams - A vision of an enchanted land” was inspired by the life and work of Welsh Mystic Writer Arthur Machen (1863- 1947) and his association with Gwent.
Mark is just as interested in the urban environment of Post Industrial South Wales as he is by local history - folklore - and the scenic beauty of the Welsh border regions.
He has now retired from full time employment and is giving himself more fully to his artistic endeavours.
